Nike have confirmed that Mason Greenwood is no longer a sponsored athlete despite the Manchester United forward's updated Instagram bio.

The Red Devils forward had charges of attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour against him dropped last week.

Greenwood was arrested in late January 2022 when images and videos were posted on social media.

United subsequently suspended him, with the club recently issuing a statement declaring they will conduct their own internal investigation to decide his future.

It has been claimed that Greenwood's teammates do not want him returning to Carrington over fears it could disrupt their season.

Despite uncertainty surrounding his future, Greenwood made a tweak to his Instagram account, where he put United's name along with former sponsor Nike in his bio.

Nike immediately axed the 21-year-old after he was released on bail last year.

But Greenwood's bio prompted questions as to whether the sportswear brand have rekindled their relationship with the England international.

But Nike have insisted that is not the case and they were quick to shut down any potential rumours.

A spokesperson told the Mirror: "Mason Greenwood is no longer a Nike athlete."

It has also been reported that EA Sports will continue to exclude the player from their FIFA video game series.

Greenwood has thanked family and friends for their support during the investigation, as he revealed he is 'relieved' the charges have been dropped.

He said: "I am relieved that this matter is now over and I would like to thank my family, loved ones and friends for their support.

“There will be no further comment at this time.”

United released a statement following the decision from the CPS that read: “Manchester United notes the decision of the Crown Prosecution Service that all charges against Mason Greenwood have been dropped.

“The club will now conduct its own process before determining next steps. We will not make any further comment until that process is complete.”
