In 1982, he had a salad-dressing company which he turned into a retail empire. Newman owned it, and that company started to generate a revenue of more than $220 million in charitable donations. 

Due to high revenue, the company was able to introduce popcorn, salsas, sauces, and fruit drinks. 

In January 2008, Woodward and Newman celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Following the same year, he was set to direct John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men stage production. 

As for Woodward, she is an artistic director. In June 2008, he withdrew from production due to health issues. It was later revealed that he was diagnosed with lung cancer. 

On September 26, 2008, he passed away, and the cause of his death was due to his cancer. It was reported that he was 83 years old at the time of his death.
